America’s veterans have done everything asked of them in their mission to serve our country. We believe it’s never too late to give them a hero’s welcome home. That’s why The Hospice of Baton Rouge is on a mission to serve those who have served.
We Honor Veterans, a program of NHPCO and VA, is designed to empower hospice professionals to meet the unique needs of dying veterans. The program teaches respectful inquiry, compassionate listening, and grateful acknowledgement to comfort patients with a history of military and possibly physical or phycological trauma.
The Hospice of Baton Rouge staff has received training from the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO) and the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) to assist veterans during their end-of-life care. We understand that veterans share a unique culture yet have different experiences that may greatly impact end-of-life care.
